MOVING has now garnered much critical praise — most recently, in a long review from Classique News (France). Having taken several months to concentrate on other things, I'm now working on a new piece (details to come). 2017 is shaping up to be both exciting and intense, with commissions from Nouvel Ensemble Moderne, les Percussions de Strasbourg and Ensemble Proton Bern, and a tour project in the works.

MOVING, Ensemble Proton Bern’s CD featuring 7 of my chamber pieces, is now available from Klarthe Records and iTunes. The disc has already garnered critical acclaim and was recently featured in New Yorker music critic Alex Ross' Nightafternight playlist. The ensemble is coming to Paris on May 10th to perform a portrait concert at the Galerie Univer, presented by the CDMC -- Details here.

Many exciting new projects to announce for the new year. I've recently accepted commissions from Nouvel Ensemble Modern (Montréal), and Les percussions de Strasbourg and will soon be starting work on both scores. My portrait CD is set to be released in a few weeks and will be launched with a gala portrait concert by Ensemble Proton Bern at Radio France in Paris, which will be broadcast live, featuring 8 pieces spanning my output so far. This concert will feature some rare scores which haven't been heard for years, as well as two French premieres. If you're in town, be sure not to miss it!

Resolute Music Publications is completing its series of editions of my wind music with Locus Solus for solo oboe, and Le malheur adoucit les pierres for bass flute, English horn and bassoon. Both scores will be available within a month or so, and as usual, have been thoroughly corrected and painstakingly re-engraved for these beautiful new editions.

I'm heading to Toronto in less than two weeks to rehearse with Esprit Orchestra. My new orchestra piece, Movements and Measures, took me the better part of a year to write, and is one of the largest compositions I have undertaken so far. I'll also be performing texts from my new book, The Relativistic Empire (Bookthug) on 19 January at Art Bar in Toronto.

3 August 2015

Toronto’s Esprit Orchestra has commissioned a second orchestral score from me, to be premiered on January 24th 2015 in beautiful Koerner Hall. Alex Pauk will conduct the premiere. I will also be in Toronto in the fall to launch my latest book with Canada's heroic Bookthug--the product of 6 years of work--at the Garrison on October 13th. You can read more about The Relativistic Empire (and also pre-order) here.

The intrepid Resolute Music Publications of Marquette, Michigan, USA has continued its series of editions of my wind music with two beautiful new scores: Passages for solo clarinet, and Nombres imaginaires for solo flute. Both pieces have been thoroughly revised and corrected, so even if you already have them, I recommend acquiring these updated and authoritative editions. Have a look.

1 July 2015

After years of hard work, and the collaboration of 14 highly gifted instrumentalists, my first solo CD has finally been recorded. You can support this project, which is still not fully funded, by contributing to our crowdfunding campaign before July 18th -- among other options, you can pre-order the disc. The CD will feature 8 of my pieces in beautifully detailed, magnificently rendered performances by ensemble proton bern. Don’t miss it!

I'm very excited to be undertaking a large project with ensemble proton bern. The ensemble will be coming to Radio France in Paris in May-June 2015 to record seven of my chamber and solo pieces for a new solo CD to be released in the fall. The group has been working on some of the pieces we are recording for years now, so you can expect a very high degree of perfection in these recordings. Proton will give two concerts in Bern in May in connection with the CD, as well as a third concert in St. Petersburg. These concerts will feature the first performances of a new Trio for oboe d'amore, viola and harp, as well as the premiere of an expanded version of À propos du concert de la semaine dernière, for piano and seven instruments.

Following the successful premiere of The Flash of the Instant for orchestra in January, Esprit Orchestra has commissioned another orchestral work from me, which will be premiered at Koerner Hall in Toronto in 2016.

I'm pleased to announce the forthcoming publication of my newest book, The Relativistic Empire, with Bookthug (Toronto). This is a major collection of poetry I've been working on since 2010, and Bookthug will be organising a launch/reading in October 2015--more details to come.

Finally, my ongoing collaboration with the Strasbourg-based ensemble HANATSU miroir has lead to an ambitious tour project. The ensemble will be performing in multiple venues in Ontario and Quebec in late October 2015, including the Music Gallery in Toronto. Full program details will be announced here later in the year.
